it doesn't mean that you should never use your target keywords. The safe and most effective practice is to use branded keywords. eg: if your target keyword is "SEO services" use "Your Brand SEO Services" as the anchor text

it was a very common practice earlier to use keywords such as "SEO service India" to rank for local keywords. if you continue doing that you are in trouble. just use "SEO services in India"

It is not a new strategy to use long tailed keywords. this strategy has gained even more importance after the series of algorithm updates in 2012
Links forfill the promise
this is a most important factor. your anchor text shouldn't be misdirected. if "read more" is used to link back to your website, the page linked must have more information as promised
